Dr. Demetrios Th. Vassiliades was born in the North Aegean island of Thassos (Greece) and got his first degree in Organization and Administration from the Economic University of Athens (ASOEE). After his graduation he traveled extensively in India and dedicated two decades in the study of the Indian languages, philosophies and culture. He studied with scholarships of the Greek Ministry of Education and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations at the Banaras Hindu University where he was awarded first class diplomas in Hindi and Sanskrit, a gold medal distinction for his M.A. in Indian Philosophy and Religion, and a Ph.D. degree in Philosophy and Religion for his dissertation, "A Critical and Comparative Study of the Presocratic Greek and Ancient Indian Philosophies." Demetrios Vassiliades is a Founding Member and President of the Indo-Hellenic Society for Culture and Development in Athens and a Founding Member of the Indo-Hellenic Friendship League in N. Delhi. He has participated in international seminars, delivered lectures in Indian and European Universities, authored books and contributed research papers and articles in Greece, India, Spain and Japan. He is the editor of the Indika Online, an intercultural forum for the advancement of the Indo-Greek Relations. He taught for 5 years Hindi and Sanskrit at the School of Foreign Languages, University of Athens and Indian Philosophy and Culture at the Centre for Intercultural Studies in Athens. Since 2009, he is a Fellow of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations and Research Associate in the Department of Hindi at the Banaras Hindu University. [1]
He has proposed the
teaching of the subject of "Indology" to the Department of Turkish and
Modern Asian Studies in Athens University and in the newly established
Department for Asian Studies in Ionian University.

Ο Δ. Βασιλειάδης είναι Ιδρυτικό Μέλος και Πρόεδρος της Ελληνο-Ινδικής Εταιρείας Πολιτισμού και Ανάπτυξης στην Αθήνα και Ιδρυτικό Μέλος του Ινδο-Ελληνικού Συνδέσμου Φιλίας στο Ν. Δελχί Έχει συμμετάσχει σε διεθνή συνέδρια και παρέδωσε διαλέξεις σε ινδικά και ευρωπαϊκά πανεπιστήμια. Βιβλία, μελέτες και άρθρα του έχουν δημοσιευθεί στην Ελλάδα, Ινδία, Ισπανία και Ιαπωνία. Είναι εκδότης του Διαπολιτισμικού περιοδικού Ινδικά Online. Δίδαξε Χίντι και Σανσκριτικά στο Διδασκαλείο Ξένων Γλωσσών του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών για 5 χρόνια, και Ινδική Φιλοσοφία και Πολιτισμό στο Κέντρο Διαπολιτισμικών Σπουδών Αθηνών.[3] Από το 2009 είναι Fellow του Ινδικού Συμβουλίου Πολιτιστικών Σχέσεων και Επιστημονικός Συνεργάτης στο Τμήμα των Χίντι του Ινδικού Πανεπιστημίου του Μπεναρές.[4] Έχει εισηγηθεί την εισαγωγή του γνωστικού αντικειμένου της Ινδολογίας στο Τμήμα Τουρκικών Σπουδών και Σύγχρονων Ασιατικών Σπουδών του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών και στο υπό ίδρυση Τμήμα Ασιατικών Σπουδών στο Ιόνιο Πανεπιστήμιο στην Κέρκυρα.
