to His Excellency Ambassador of India to the Hellenic Republic Mr. Dilip Sinha

Your Excellency,

On behalf of the Indo-Hellenic Society for Culture and Development (ELINEPA) we would like to express our heartfelt sorrow over the death of innocent civilians following the acts of terror in Mumbai. Those terrorist attacks were totally against all religious teachings, the universal principles and the democratic secular and philosophical ideals of India.

The ELINEPA will strengthen its efforts on promotion of the great ideals on peaceful coexistence of beliefs and religions as they have been expressed by the great spiritual and enlightened leaders of our two nations.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and the people of India.

Yours faithfully,

Dr. Dimitrios Vassiliadis

President

Indo-Hellenic Society for Culture and Development

We will not be Divided
Forwarded by Uma Lacombe

Dear friends across India and the world,
The brutal Mumbai terrorist attacks sought to divide us. Join an urgent message to show the extremists they failed, and call for unity against terror: Sign the message now We're all feeling the shock of the awful attacks in Mumbai. All our hearts go out to the victims and their families. These attacks were aimed at our people, our prosperity and our peace. But their top target was something else: our unity. If these attacks cause us to turn on each other in hatred and conflict, the terrorists will have won. They know that hatred and chaos feed on division. They also know they are radical extremists, and their only way to win is to turn the rest of us against one other. Let's deny them that victory. We're launching a message to extremists on all sides and all our political leaders, one that will soon be published in newspapers across India and Pakistan. The message is that these tactics aren't working, that we're more united than ever, united in our love and support to each other, and determined to work together to stop violent extremism, and we expect all our political and religious leaders to join us, and make this a moment for unity, not division. If millions of people sign it, our message will be unmistakable, click below to sign it and please forward this email widely:http://www.avaaz.org/en/india_undivided/ Extremists seek to tear India, and the rest of the world, apart. Our best weapon against them, and the best way to honour the memory of those who have been killed, is to come together in unity and reconciliation, and make sure our leaders do the same. It's time to speak out, let's do it together. With respect, sadness and hope,Ricken Patel and the Avaaz team.--------------- ABOUT AVAAZ Avaaz.org is an independent, not-for-profit global campaigning organization that works to ensure that the views and values of the world's people inform global decision-making.

Pope’s Criticism to Muslims

The pope's intention was to criticize Muslims, not really to portray them as
diabolical. The remark which he cited (without disapproving of it) was that of
a man whose knowledge of Islam was defective and who was extremely ignorant
about the Koran. The pope thereby displayed his own ignorance. I wish that he
had recalled the very different portrayal of Muslims - as noble people and as
fellow children of God - which one of the greatest of German poets, the
medieval bard Wolfram von Eschenbach, made in his epic poem, "Willehalm". But
at least the pope did not cite the infamous 12th-century letter in which St.
Bernard said that God had "aroused the spirit of kings and princes to inflict
vengeance" upon Muslims in the Second Crusade, and that "the adversary" (i.e.
the Devil) had "stored up a seed of evil, the accursed pagans" (i.e. the
Muslims) whose "envenomed heads" should be crushed "with armed heel".

In 2004, Maulana Wahiduddin Khan gave the following advice to some students of
mine from a Turkish university when they called upon him in New Delhi (during a
tour sponsored by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations): "Always act
positively, even when the situation is negative." Let the Muslims and
Christians alike follow this advice!

Ποιος κρύβεται πίσω από το ψευδώνυμο "Chiensis";

University students launch worldwide website for Sanskrit promotion

"umd_Samskritam" began as a collaboration between DESI (www.desiumd.org), a student group at the University of Maryland and Samskrita-Bharati ( www.samskrita-bharati.org) in Feb 2005, with the intention of introducing spoken Sanskrit in daily life. Having grown into a group of over 160 members and about 15 volunteers by May 2006, in addition to coordinating the Sanskrit activities in the DC area, they decided to launch this website which aims to function as a repository of Sanskrit resources, link together Sanskrit activities around the world and also promote Sanskrit through fun, and such activities as blogging and forums.  European Database of Scholars Engaged in Research on India

At the Research Centre Vergelijkende Cultuurwetenschap, Ghent University, Belgium, we have developed an online database of European scholars engaged in research on India and who are either citizens of, or working in, one of the 25 European Member States. The results of this project can be consulted on ESIND - the European Studies on India Database.

ESIND provides information on people actively working on India in the humanities and the social sciences or showing a major interest in India. It offers an invaluable source to facilitate the collaboration and the creation of networks among European institutions, scholars and students of India. The online interface presents a user-friendly search engine with one-click access to names, countries, and institutes. ESIND is freely accessible via the Research Centre's website

While the present number of entries exceeds 1180 persons from 25 EU Member States, the database still intends to be as comprehensive as possible in terms of the people and information included. In order to always present you with up-to-date information we would be obliged if you could inform us about any relevant changes that might affect your record, and, if possible, forward this message to friends and/or colleagues not yet included. The database will be updated once every month. Any inquiries, comments and changes can be sent to http://us.f306.mail.yahoo.com/ym/Compose?To=raf.gelders@UGent.be

European / Greek Researchers on India.

...At the Research Centre Vergelijkende Cultuurwetenschap (Comparative Science of Culture) at Ghent University, Belgium, we are building a database on the European Studies on India in the humanities and the social sciences (European Studies on India Database: ESIND). The aim is to include the data of all the scholars who are doing
research on India and who are either citizens of – or working in – one of the 25
European Union Member States.

The database intends to be as comprehensive as possible in terms of the research scholars included. It will be freely accessible to all on the Research Centre's website, which is currently being set up. The main purpose of the database is to facilitate the collaboration and the creation of networks among European scholars of India....

As for the Greek section of our database, it has proven to be difficult for us to find information about Greek scholars who work on India within the humanities and/or the social sciences. Any information and/or e-mail addresses of relevant scholars would be very useful for us to continue this project....
