EARLY GREEK AND INDIAN PHILOSOPHIES

A Comparative Study

by

Demetrios Th. Vassiliades

We have much to learn from two of the ancient philosophical traditions that have deeply influenced the European and Asian civilisations and have presaged today’s events. This study, therefore, has been undertaken to show how Indians and Greeks have asserted and questioned themselves and how they tried to describe and clarify some basic philosophical presuppositions. Here, we compare philosophies developed during the same historical period by people living in different cultures and environments. Such a side-by-side comparison enables us to sort out disparities and resemblances, but it also improves our understanding of each tradition independently.
